Week One - Paint Palette Paper - Value Study
In order to take your paintings to the next level, having a solid understanding of value is important. In this lesson, we will recap monochrome values but also delve into techniques to achieve deeper values with a wider colour spectrum, to make the most of watercolour's transparent qualities.
Week Two - She Sells Sea Shells
In week two we will explore when and where to apply different watercolour washes. How to break down an image and plan your watercolour process before commencing. For example, when to apply a flat wash or a gradient wash. When to apply a soft edge or a hard edge. We will paint some beautiful seashells when applying these fundamental techniques.
Week Three - Split Complementary Colour Wheel.
This lesson will continue to build on colour theory skills, understanding how to achieve muted or brighter colours. We will complete a painting of a beautiful peacock in all its feathered glory through our ability to mix exciting colours.
Week Four - Loose Landscapes, Mark Making
In week four we will create exciting marks on the paper. You will learn exciting techniques by adding other watercolour mediums to your painting process and trying new tools.
Week Five - Feathers and Fur
In week five we will explore different methods for achieving feathers and fur. Don't be afraid - photo references only in class!
You will learn to observe your subject broken into areas of value and texture.
Week Six - Hibiscus and Raindrops
This final piece will require all skills gained throughout the previous classes to create a beautiful hibiscus flower finished with delicate raindrops.
Please do not attend class if you are unwell with cold symptoms. In the event either myself or you are unable to attend the class, I will provide a make-up lesson at the end of the term.
The content of this class may not be specific to the lesson you missed, but it will still cover watercolour techniques and a finished painting.
Covid related absence
